MOUNT ARARATI HIKING NINE(9) DAYS ITINERARY

TIME IS FROM 5 JULY 2024 TO 13 JULY 2024

Day 1: Sightseeing of Van area

Meeting with your guide at the airport in Van, from where we will drive to visit beautiful Van Castle. From city centre we will drive to 33 km to ferry terminal and have short cruise to Akdamar Island on the Lake Van. We will see Church of The Holy Cross, an Armenian church built between 915 and 921 AD. After visiting Akdamar Island we will drive to Van, to our hotel.

Dinner and overnight in Van.

Day 2: Hiking on Mount Cat (Çat Dağı)

After breakfast at the hotel we will drive to Gurpinar, to the foot of Mount Cat. We will ascent to the summit of the mountain (elevation around 3140 m) and after time for resting and taking some photos we will back to the point where minibus will wait for us. We will come back to our hotel in Van. Dinner and overnight in Van.

Day 3: Ascent to Mount Artos summit (3515 m)

After early breakfast and packing all our luggage to the minibus (that evening we will stay in other hotel) we will drive to Gevas, to the foot of Mount Artos. We will start to ascent to the summit of the mountain, from where we will have breathtaking view of Van Lake and surroundings. After break for taking photos we will descent to our minibus and drive to Tatvan city. Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Tatvan.

Day 4: Hiking on Nemrut Caldera, transfer to Dogubayazit

After breakfast we will drive to the foot of Mount Nemrut Caldera (around 2950 m) and start our trek to the West side of the Crater Lake and climb to the summit of Mount Nemrut. After descent from the summit we will drive to Dogubayazit. Dinner and overnight there

Day 5: From Dogubayazit to Ararat Camp 1

After breakfast in hotel we will pack our equipment and drive to Cevirme Village, near to the foot of Mount Ararat. Porters will put our luggage on horses and we will start our trek to the Camp 1 (Base Camp) at 3200 m. On the camp we will eat lunch, drink hot tea and pitch our tents. Rest time and dinner.

Overnight at Camp 1.

Day 6: Ascent to Ararat Camp 2

We eat breakfast on the Camp 1, pack our equipment and start to ascent to Camp 2 located at 4200 m. Horses will carry our luggage to Camp 2. On the campsite we will eat lunch, pitch our tents and prepare our equipment for next day (ascent to the summit).

Day 7:Ascent to Ararat summit and return to Camp 1

We will wake up very early (usually between 1-2 a.m.), eat breakfast and drink something hot. Later we will take lunch packets and thermoses with hot tea, prepared by our cook, last time we will check our equipment (headlamps, crampons, walking poles, ect.) and will start climbing to the summit of Ararat. We should reach the summit of Mount Ararat 5-7 hours later. On the summit we will have short break for taking photos and celebrating our success. After short break on the summit, we will start to descent to Camp 2 at 4200 meters. At the camp we will drink hot tea or coffee, eat something and rest 1-2 hours. Later we will pack our equipment and start to descent to Camp 1 at 3200m.

Day 8:Return to Dogubayazit, sightseeing

Breakfast at the campsite. Then we will pack all the equipment and start descent to the point, where minibuses will wait for us. We back to Dogubayazit to our hotel. After some rest and having lunch we will visit Ishak Pasha Palace - one of the most important palaces in Ottoman history, built in 17th century,located 7 km from Dogubayazit.Then we will visit Durupinar site. It's a canoe-shaped area that some people believe could be the "footprint" of Noah's Ark.After sightseeing we can go to Turkish Bath (hamam). Dinner.

Day 9: Transfer to the airport

In the morning we will have breakfast at the hotel. Then, depending on your departure time we will drop you to the airport in Van, Agri or Igdir.

  • All transfers during the tour,

  • Pack animals (horses), which will carry your personal equipment on Ararat
  • Hotel accommodation in Van(with breakfast) - 2 nights; twin or double rooms,
  • Hotel accommodation in Tatvan(with breakfast) - 1 night; twin or double rooms

Hotel accommodation in Dogubayazit (with breakfast) - 2 nights; twin or double rooms,

  • Lunch packets during the hiking on Mount Cat, Artos and Nemrut
  • All meals and soft drinks during the climbing on Mount Ararat
  • Sleeping mattresses and tents on Mount Ararat (1 tent for 2 people)
  • Crampons (if clients haven't got their own)
  • All entrance fees to museums and historical places
  • Ferry trip to Akdamar Island on the Van Lake
